“Listen to silence. It has so much to say.” Rumi
I talk a lot. Maybe you do, too. We talk all day to family, friends, and colleagues. We talk on the phone, in meetings, and at the supermarket. There is no lack of talking in my world and, I’m guessing, in your world, too. But what about silence? Does that have a place in your life?
We fill up our day with things that require us to talk, which is important, but do we ever dedicate time for us to be silent? Have you ever carved out time for you to calmly and peacefully sit in silence and think or meditate? If you haven’t, you’re definitely missing out. Sitting in silence, even for just 10 minutes, pushes the pause button on this wild ride we call life. There is rarely ever pure silence, but simply eliminating voices is a welcomed respite we should consider implementing every day.
If you’re still not convinced, here are some of the benefits of silence: it helps you concentrate, it fosters creativity, it increases self-awareness, it creates a sense of calm, it makes you more patient, it lowers your blood pressure, it boosts your immune system, it grows new brain cells, it decreases stress, it regulates hormones, and much more. You need to do what is right for you, but I believe adding some uninterrupted silence into our day can only be a net gain for us. You can even create your silent time outside if you’d like. It’s all about you!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
