Over the weekend, we virtually attended a celebration and fundraiser for a non-profit we support – UrbanPromise Trenton (UPT). They have been an integral part of the Trenton community for 10 years now and the virtual event was to celebrate how far they have come in those 10 years. It was truly joyful and heartwarming to see how and why they have grown.
The “how and the why” is because of the people who remained invested in UPTs success. There was one particular person who was honored on Saturday night for her comittment to the program for the full 10 years. She has been an unpaid volunteer for her whole tenure at UPT. This faithful servant has spent countless hours and her own personal income to make sure these children of Trenton succeed. Everyone loves her — the kids, the staff, the board, other volunteers — everyone! She is a unicorn in today’s world. To have the pleasure to know someone like this in your lifetime, let alone work with them, is a priceless gift. Her name is Georgia.
Saturday night, as I listened to the executive director of UPT rave about Georgia and how important and loved she is by all of UPT and Trenton, I thought about me and you—the non-unicorns. Georgia didn’t do any of this for praise, she did it because her heart called her to it AND she listened to that calling. What’s your heart calling you to do? What stopped you? You and I may never be Georgia, but we can listen to our heart. I believe we are all called to help in some way. Start small. Find the thing your heart is bursting to help. Is it children, women and girls, animals, health, hunger, water, education, etc? Commit to it. Commit your time and your money. Imagine what would happen if we were all a little bit more like Georgia? WOW, the world would change for sure!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
