Sometimes we get caught in the moment, and by “the moment,” right now I mean the whole holiday season. There are only 12 days until Christmas and perhaps there is still a lot you need to get done at home and at work. It sometimes feels a little bit like the end of a race, when everyone begins to pick up the pace so they can “win.” If you were to ask me how I feel at that time, I would use words like busy, knee-deep, bustling, active, maybe even assiduous, but not quite harried—yet!
We don’t always talk about how we feel, but since we still have 12 days before Christmas (you can sing the Christmas carol now if you’d like), maybe it’s a good time. It’s likely to get worse before it gets better, right? Start by adding to my list above and try to put your finger on the top 3 feelings you’re feeling right now, especially if “depleted and rundown” are among them. Stop here and list your top 3.
This may not sound uplifting, but once we know these feelings, we can make another list of how we do want to feel. I want to feel calm, peaceful, loving, appreciative, and excited. Remaining in the vortex of emotions we don’t want can often be fixed by identifying the emotions we do want. The pace is only going to get faster, so give yourself a helping hand by choosing how you want to feel and creating that intention every day. It might not work, but it’s better than our current plan, right? —Grab the reigns!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
