Last week, as some of you know, I was in California presenting to my client’s executive leadership team. One of the main focuses was how to create high performance teams. I get that request a lot. Who doesn’t want to create a high performance team, right?
We can Google it and get a lot a really great ideas regarding what makes up a HPT, but honestly I believe it’s a “chicken or the egg” kind of question and I’m choosing the chicken. I believe HPTs are the OUTCOME of great leadership. The finger should conceivably point to the leader before it points to the team.
Look at all the people on your team and instead of thinking about all the ways they could improve, take a good look at yourself and ask, “How can I be a better leader? How can I serve each team member better?” Remember this: managing is about organizing, coordinating, and deadlines, but leading is about the growth and development of those whom you have been tasked with serving. Are you a manager or are you leader?
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
