“Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.” Eckhart Tolle
Last night I was hanging out with friends and we got on the topic of Tom Brady. As you know, I am an Philadelphia Eagles fan so I instantly went into my, “He didn’t shake hands with Nick Foles after the Eagles beat the Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl,” diatribe. Doug tried to defend Brady, but I was having none of it.
This morning I thought about how many times I’ve talked about this dumb story of Tom Brady. I realized how often we hang onto our emotionally charged stories. They become our narrative. But isn’t letting go a better narrative? Why do we hang on? Is it because we believe we are right? Great, we’re right. Where is that getting us? We are still lugging this baggage around and it’s certainly not bringing us any peace.
If you think this is about Tom Brady, it’s SO not. What emotionally charged story is part of your narrative? Think about the last time you went on your diatribe. Did it bring you peace to share it? Even if you’re right, so what? Is it time to let it go? Imagine never telling this story again—will that bring you peace? It’s time.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
Beth
