Yesterday, on my Monday morning call, we discussed time. We talked about all the ways we refer to time: we kill it, pass it, waste it, buy it, track it, spend it, take it, etc. But the one that got me thinking the most was “overtime”—not as it relates to a wage, but the time that is assigned in excess of a set limit, like in a football or basketball game.
That time gets treated differently, doesn’t it? When we’re watching our favorite team go into overtime, we’re on edge. Every second matters because we only have a finite amount of time to use to win. But didn’t we really have a finite amount of time when the game began? Why didn’t our team treat those minutes like they do overtime minutes? Did they take time for granted when the game started because there was “so much” time? How we look at time matters—a lot!
Today, take a look at your career or your relationships or your health or your finances, or something else that needs improvement. Are you treating it as if you have all the time in the world to fix it? How would you treat it differently if you knew you were in overtime? We let our perception of time dictate how we act, but that doesn’t have to be the case. We can take control. Actually, I advise it. This thing is important and the clock is ticking.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
