“There is no path to happiness. Happiness is the path.” ~ Buddha
Let this quote sink in. Read it again if you must. It ties back to what I discussed yesterday with intrinsic and extrinsic goals. We won’t be happy WHEN we get the new car—this kind of thinking believes there is a path to happiness. How can we be happy right now with the old car? Instead of thinking about WHEN we will be happy, can we simply choose NOW?
“Happiness is a journey not a destination.” Unknown
Maybe you have an old car, or a not-so-great job, or maybe you’re carrying a few extra pounds—regardless of these thing, what are you happy about right now? If you can’t think of what you’re happy about, then try thinking about what you’re grateful for. Happiness and gratitude have a direct correlation, so we can choose gratitude first—it’s like choosing to enter happiness through the backdoor.
Know that you can be happy right NOW, not WHEN things get better. Someone will always have more, so if you’re trying to catch up, know that it’s an endless and exhausting game you’re choosing to play. Look at ALL of your blessings. Allow yourself to be enveloped in the good that already exists in your life. Choose the happiness path and enjoy the happiness journey! Life is a lot better on this path, I promise.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
BETH
