For the past few weekends, we have had four gentlemen here, working on our home to help us prepare it for sale. They arrive every Saturday morning at 7:30 am and work through until about 4:30 pm. Their main task hasn’t been easy—removing wallpaper.
What has amazed Doug and I the most is their attitude and behavior. Somehow, these guys manage to spend all day laughing with each other! I know they are friends, and clearly they enjoy working with each other, but listening to this all day long has made me and Doug more joyful! The house gets a little less joyful when they leave for lunch—and noticeably more joyful when they return. There is some tangential joy one gets simply by being around joyful people.
Take a moment to think about your work environment—do you make it more joyful? Who is the joy-catalyst in your group? Is there someone who is the antithesis of a joy-catalyst? I know that’s not you. What Doug and I have realized with these wonderful men is that joy is intentionally created! That’s right, joy is not accidental and it’s certainly not guaranteed. Joy is created by joy-makers! Are YOU a joy-maker? Everyone CAN be, we just need to be intentional about it!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
