I was watching a video the other day and I heard a woman say, “I have nothing to prove.” I’m not sure why it hit me so hard, but I became preoccupied with the word “prove.” “Prove” has a lot a push-energy, which is hard work, like an uphill climb. “Pull-energy,” on the other hand, is much easier and much more enjoyable. So “I have nothing to prove” is all pull-energy and comes with a feeling of liberation.
Having the need to prove ourselves is tied to our sense of self-worth. Go back to your childhood and see how often you were told, “I’m proud of you!” Do you have a fragile sense of self-worth that forces you to constantly prove yourself to be affirmed OR is your self-worth built on bedrock—you do things for yourself and not for the validation of others? It’s a good question to ask ourselves—if no one witnesses this, am I still ok? Is me knowing enough?
You and I don’t need to prove ourselves anymore! We don’t, we are enough. We are deserving of love, support, praise, affirmation, and more. Let that insecure child within you know how awesome you have become! Tell that voice, “I don’t need external validation anymore!” Look at all that you have accomplished—incredible, right? Go forward by doing things and don’t let anyone know but yourself. Get used to your own validation. Be proud of yourself in private. Exercise this self-worth muscle often and say, “I have nothing to prove.”
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
