A little over a week ago, at 25 years old, Scottie Scheffler won the 86th Masters Tournament at the famed Augusta National Golf Course. Winning The Masters for a golfer is equivalent to winning the Super Bowl for a football player or winning a gold medal in the Olympics—many try, but few succeed. After winning, the golfer is immediately donned with the iconic, and highly coveted, green jacket. It’s a big deal.
Although the victory for Scheffler is in the books, I want to share what happend the morning of his final round. He woke up last Sunday knowing he was heading into the final round with a 3-stroke lead. Scheffler recounted the morning is his press conference after the win, “I cried like a baby this morning. I was so stressed out. I didn’t know what to do. I was sitting there telling Meredith (his wife), ‘I don’t think I’m ready for this. I’m not ready, I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff, and I just felt overwhelmed.'”
I love his authenticity! Most people wouldn’t share that story, but I am so glad he did. We all should be grateful, because that’s the truth about success. It doesn’t come easy. Sometimes it might even come with tears. And it certainly comes with moments of doubt! I guess he had the option to quit, but who would do that? Let’s all use Scheffler’s story to empower ourselves to move forward even when we think, “I don’t think I’m ready for this. I’m not ready!” Look what happened for him!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
