Letters of Recommendation

Recently a friend of mine landed a new job. After accepting the offer, but before her first day of work, a woman from HR who spearheaded the interview process emailed her and asked if she had a few minutes to talk. She thought this was a bit odd, but graciously accepted the offer to chat. What came next floored me.

When my friend got on the call, the woman explained that she wanted to share something with her. My friend had been asked to get 6 letters of recommendation for this job, and the woman was so moved by the sentiments in these letters that she wanted to share all of these incredible words with my friend! How awesome is that? Who wouldn’t want to hear something like that? My hat goes off to this lady! And she said, “If you’re ever having a bad day, call me, and I’ll read them to you again!” — I love her!

Unfortunately, we all don’t have acces to our recommendation letters. Some of us don’t even have recommendation letters. But we can’t let that stop us, this story is too good. How can we take the example of what this woman did for my friend and apply it to those around us? Wouldn’t the world be a little better if we did? We can even do this with our family and friends. Kind, admiring, and flattering words should be shared—not filed away, never to be seen. Today, let’s spread the love!
