“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
This is so simple, right? Yet many people get caught up trying to “figure out” who they were meant to be, all the while skipping over the part that is readily available to us which is intentionally creating who we want to be! I believe we can do both.
The problem with “finding yourself,” is that usually not much else goes on during the search. Creating yourself, on the other hand, is incredibly dynamic. Think about creating yourself right now—who do you want to create? Do you want to develop more confidence? Do you want to be a better leader or parent? Do you want to get promoted at work? Do you want to be healthier? Do you want to be nicer or more engaged in your community? Who do you want to be a year from now that you aren’t right now? That’s creating yourself!
Look, finding yourself is important, but so is creating yourself. People who are stuck in “finding” mode, forget that “creating” mode is right next-door, waiting to be chosen. It’s as if we have been waiting for permission to CREATE the new us. Well then, permission granted! Today, WE CREATE! Ask yourself, “Who do I want to be that I currently am not?” It’s that simple. George Bernard Shaw would not steer us in the wrong direction.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
