I’m reading an outstanding book, 102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers, written by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn. I’m only 70 pages in and I am already captivated by all of the details I never knew. Having worked in the World Trade Center for a number of years, as well as having been evacuated from the building during the 1993 bombing, I have an affection for The World Trade Center and a desire to understand more.
What I learned in these first 70 pages of 102 Minutes is how unpredictable life can be. I learned about the good and bad components of unpredictability and what a difference a minute can make. I was particularly struck by a “heated” discussion a couple was having on the phone about who was going to call and cancel the newspaper delivery. As the reader, I knew how insignificant that discussion was, but they didn’t. Not yet.
Today, I am encouraging all of us to pause and recognize the unpredictability of life. Think about all of the ridiculous arguments or discussions we are currently involved in at work or at home and ask ourselves, “Is it worth it?” What if we simply let it go? What if we decided not to go to the mat on this one? What if we let them win? What if we simply chose love and joy and happiness instead? What if?
