“Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn’t have the power to say yes.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Yesterday I shared with a friend, in my eyes, Roosevelt’s most famous quote, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” We’ve all heard that one, and I hope we all try to live by those words daily. But she said many more amazing words of wisdom during her lifetime, and today’s quote is one of my favorites! This isn’t necessarily a, “Well then can I talk to your boss,” kind of quote, but maybe that, too.
Today’s quote reminds us that we very often listen to people who, perhaps unintentionally squash our dreams, but never had the power to make them so. Why do we listen to them? I remember someone who heard we were selling our house and didn’t have our new living situation “locked up,” said to a friend of ours, “They’re crazy!” She might have been right, but we did manage too successfully find a beautiful home. I’m not sure which quote of Roosevelt’s additional quotes to share with this person. Should I share: “Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway.” Or, “Nothing has ever been achieved by the person who says, ‘It can’t be done.” Or maybe, “Be confident, not certain.” All seem to fit, so today use any of Roosevelt’s sage advice for yourself because as she said, “The purpose of life is to live it!” Hell yeah!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
