Motivational Monday

Do you know the three things you are never supposed to talk about? Religion, politics, and money! Well, I always forewarn you when I am going there, and today I am going there, but don’t run away just yet. I’m not trying to convert or convince you, I’m simply sharing an insight I had recently.

Almost every morning I start my day with prayer—and a cup of tea. It’s a routine that I started a long time ago. I am also part of a prayer group, and together we share the names of people who need some fervent prayers. This morning, in addition to my own prayers, I prayed for a few close friends with cancer, a young lady who was severely injured by a horse, two young ladies going through a rough patch, a cat who recently had surgery, and a few more. I find this time grounding, peaceful, and worthwhile for my heart and my soul. I love this routine and how I start almost every day.

What I realized today, though, was that this simple routine starts my day with me thinking not about myself or my needs or wants, but about those of others. Occasionally, there is a prayer for me, but usually it’s about everyone else. And maybe prayer isn’t your thing, which is 100% a-OK, but maybe spending a few minutes sending good wishes to someone else would change your day, too. Look, we will always revert back to the, “Me, me, me,” thinking, but maybe holding the space for just 10 minutes a day that we think about others isn’t such a bad thing? For me, it’s amazing, and when I miss it, for whatever reason, my day simply isn’t as good. Give it a try.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
