Quiet Quitting is a widespread topic right now in the news and the numbers support its existence as well as its popularity. Employees are burned out. If Covid is, in fact over, then we must agree that there has been some serious collateral damage along the way. And we can’t just call it our, “new normal,” and move on.
I have a lot more to say about quiet quitting, but today I am simply going to remind us to check in. One periodic (and possibly insincere), “How’s it going? How are you?” isn’t going to cut it and it isn’t going to make us Leader of the Year. People need to know we care and care a lot. I always ask us to take particular care of the single moms, but today I am going to ask us not to over look the Millennials and the Gen Z’s—they are the one’s that are quitting and they don’t care if there is a job to move on to, which is pretty telling. They aren’t quitting because they are lazy, they are quitting to protect their mental health.
Today’s task is simply to take a good look at your team. How can you show them you really care? If we could see a physical ailment, we would most certainly lend a helping hand. In 2022, just because we can’t see an “ailment” doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Old school nose-to-the-grindstone isn’t the best leadership tactic right now. Sincere kindness, compassion, and genuine caring currently rule. Give it a go. It can’t hurt.
