I was watching a football game on Sunday and it was a tight battle. As halftime approached, the trailing team came marching down the field rather easily and looked destined to score. Unfortunately, as hard as they tried, they were unsuccessful and were forced to kick a field goal—3 points versus 7. The announcer commented, “Well that’s certainly going to deflate the team going into the locker room at halftime.”
Of course, this man’s disheartening comment made me think. I would agree that getting 3 points versus 7 is not as good, but chipping away at the deficit is progress, right? How the team viewed those 3 points versus 7 is critical. Did they see it as a failure or did they see it as part of the road to success? Little wins add up, and so does a positive mindset.
Let’s look at our life now. Do we dismiss little wins like this commentator did, or can we look at it differently? Sometimes we quit when we only see little wins, and that’s nothing any football team has ever done. Quitting isn’t allowed. We should adopt that rule, too, No quitting! If you are getting little wins, keep going! That shouldn’t be “disheartening,” it should be “inspiring!” Wins, even when they are little, are still wins—it’s all about how we look at it!
And P.S., if you’re looking for an inspirational speaker, don’t hire that commentator!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
