“Before you heal someone, ask him if he’s willing to give up the things that are making him sick.” ~ Hippocrates
Today’s quote may appear as if I am talking about health and medicine, but am I? I believe Hippocrates is covering a lot of ground here with this one statement. It says a lot about human nature and he said this back around 400 B.C., so my guess is that we have remained the same over a long period of time.
So let’s talk about personal growth, and not health, in relation to Hippocrates wise words. Can we take a good look at what what we are currently doing that is preventing us from actually succeeding? We might not be able to see everything, but we can certainly rattle off a few of our own individual (and possibly self-inflicted) roadblocks, right?
If we want to “heal,” we have to be willing to give up the things that are making us “sick!” This holds true not only for our health, but also for our personal and professional growth. What Hippocrates was trying to say, I believe, was that the external medicine can’t be effective if the internal personal refuses to change. It’s a package deal and we need to accept ownership of our role in this. So, are we willing to give up the things that are making us “sick”?
Action Step: Be honest with yourself. Write down one roadblock that you are creating to prevent your success.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
