Yesterday, I was listening to a podcast about happiness. Actually, it was a podcast about how we rob ourselves of our own happiness and we don’t even see ourselves doing it! Everyone wants to be happy, right? If I could tell you how to be even happier, would you want to know how? Of course you would! Me, too!
We already know that things only make us happy for a short period of time—until we want the next best thing that’s better, shinier, and newer (read The Molecule of More). But there’s also a part of us that, even when things are good and we are happy, starts to ponder what can go wrong, yanking us out of that happy place and down the rabbit whole of fear. Have you ever had that happen?
Today’s action steps are to simply notice how often you leave happy, and go to fear. Remember, we do this to ourselves all day long! Happy is a present moment thing. Right now, can you find 5 things to be happy about? Good. Fear is a future thing. It’s a “But what if,” thing. I’m not telling you not to think about the future, but do this exercise for a day or two, and see how often you let your mind take you, unnecessarily, to a place of fear. Happiness is the color of sunshine and the weight of air. On the contrary, fear is really dark and heavy. We get to choose which thought we want to have. You’re in control.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
