Happy Fat Tuesday! Fun Fact: Did you know that Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday,” reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual of Lenten sacrifices and fasting begin. I hope you have a fabulous King Cake to sink your teeth into today!
I think Lent is kind of interesting and I don’t think we make the sacrifices for the right reasons—or at least I don’t. I think we make them for selfish reasons. We give up chocolate or alcohol because that will serve us and make us healthier, not necessarily because it’s a display of how we can endure temptation. But maybe it is. Regardless, I don’t think this makes us bad people, I’m simply reflecting.
So what 40-Day Challenge would make us better people or the world a better place? What if we did 40 days of letter writing, 40 acts of kindness, or 40 phone calls? Could we “fast” from gossip. Could we take a normal expenditure like Starbucks, fast from that for 40 days and donate the $$ to charity? Could we post only things on Facebook or Instagramthat spread happiness or kindness? Could we sign up to volunteer? The answer is: we could. Could is an interesting word. It means we are both able and we know how. Regardless of your religion, give “I could,” some thought. And remember, “I can,” is it’s present tense.
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
Beth
P.S. You can do this at work, too!
