The Yellow Jersey

In Le Tour de France, they bestow the iconic yellow jersey after each day of racing to the cyclist with the fastest overall time. Therefore it doesn’t necessarily go to the winner of that day’s stage and it can change hands often over the course of 21 days. It is ultimately awarded to the race’s overall winner on the Champs-Élysées at the end of the race. So to win the yellow jersey even once is a big deal.

As I was watching the race the other day on T.V., I heard Phil Liggett (the voice of cycling) comment on what the wearing of the yellow jersey does for the mind. He quoted Wout van Aert, a Belgian cyclist, as having said, “I wanted to show that the jersey gives me wings. At least I felt like (I was) flying in the last 10 kilometers.” Wearing the yellow jersey changed his mindset.

Is this making you think? Are you asking yourself, “What about me?” How can we find the “yellow jersey” in our lives? We all have one. That’s right, you heard me correctly—We all have the “yellow jersey” at home to give us “wings.” If you’re struggling to find it, I’ll tell you were to look—go directly to your past and find the moment(s) in time when you amazing, the rock star, the king of the hill. Each one of us has those moments, but we forget. I don’t care if you have to go back to kindergarten, FIND THOSE MOMENTS! That’s your yellow jersey!! And now you have wings—so use them!!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
