For today, imagine that you’re 100 years young. You’re sitting in a rocking chair on a beautiful porch overlooking the magnificent rolling hills of the countryside. Imagine a much younger person comes outside on the porch to sit with you and ask you a few questions. See if you can answer the questions as if you were 100.
What is the secret to your longevity and good health? What is your best advice for a younger person? Is that the same advice you’d give to your younger self? What is your biggest regret? What do you wish you did more of in your lifetime? And, less of? Is there anything you wanted to do that you never got around to? What was your greatest success? What made you the happiest? What would you do differently?
100 may not be around the corner for you or me, but asking these questions now is always a good exercise. It puts a lot into perspective. It reminds us what’s important and what is not. If you’re feeling stressed right now over just about anything, answer these questions. And it’s always good to ask yourself, “In 5 years, will this matter?” Often times, the answer is, “Not even a little bit.”I hope this exercise brings you peace.
