We, and by “we” I mean the world, talk a lot about our “best self.” I Googled “best self” and I was not surprised to find these titles: The Complete Guide to Becoming Your Best Self, The Ultimate Guide: How To Become Your Best Self, Becoming Your Best Self is The Foundation For Everything, and many that started with 8 Ways, 11 Ways, 21 Ways, etc. This made me think.
Of course we should always aspire to become our best self, but in doing so, are we implying that becoming our best self means not “this self?” There’s so much pressure put on each of us to improve from our weight, to our skin, to our eating habits, to our clothes, to our careers, to our cars, to our homes, etc. It’s a vicious cycle of the hamster wheel that never seems to end—and we are constantly hearing “this self” is not good enough, she needs to improve! And the pressure is coming from none other than ourselves.
I know we want to blame social media, but the only thing we have control over is us. I see nothing wrong with seeking our best self AS LONG AS we can affirm how amazing “this self” currently is. I want us to like “this self” a lot! I want us to appreciate all that “this self” has already done. And I want us to LOVE this self, as is, today, right now—perfect, whole, and complete. As Louise Hay once said,
“The truth of my Being is that I was created perfect, whole, and complete. I will always be perfect, whole, and complete. I now choose to live my life from this understanding. I am in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing. All is well in my world.”
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
