Giving Tuesday!

I was reading an article about the late Byron Wien. If you don’t know who that is, fear not, neither did I. He was a long-time Wall Street man who provided insights on the economy, financial markets, and global affairs for 38 years. Prior to his death he was working for Blackstone, but he spent many years with Morgan Stanley. He was 90 years old at the time of his death and he was still actively working and taking Zoom calls, which aligns with one of his 20 Life Lessons which is—never retire.

Another life lesson he had was about philanthropy about which he said this, “Try to relieve pain rather than spread joy.” He further explains that music, theater, and art museums already have affluent supporters as well as great parties, but they don’t need us. Its social services, hospitals, and educational institutions that can make the world a better place and help the disadvantaged. Wien was orphaned at the age of 14, so he speaks from personal experience.

Today is Giving Tuesday. If you’re like me, you spent the last 4 days spending, not giving—spending almost without hesitation. I hope Wien’s words will inspire you, like they did me, this morning. How can we relieve pain for someone who could really use it right now? What are you passionate about? Please share below, perhaps you will inspire others by your choice. The three that are coming to mind for me right now are Covenant House New Jersey, UrbanPromise International, and Hoboken Shelter. Let’s all relieve some pain for someone today.

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
