An Uphill Climb

As a part of the Forbes Coaches Council, we are asked to weigh in on questions each month that Forbes believes are relevant to their readers. I love answering these questions each month and I’m delighted when mine is one of the few that is chosen.

This month was interesting because it was all about New Year’s resolutions failing, “holiday hangovers”—work hangovers, not alcohol related, and CEO challenges. These questions reminded me how hard January can be from a professional perspective. It’s not really our best month, is it? It’s as if December was all down hill, coasting some might say, and then we are smacked in the face with January—an all uphill climb. UGH.

What if we made some fun plans right now for January? We might want to think about events that would be budget- and diet-friendly for those that set resolutions. Make a commitment to walking during your lunch hour to soak up the daylight—and bring a friend! There are 21 work days in January, so make it a 21-day challenge. Make plans with friends now—a game night or a movie night are cheap and fun. Rearrange your furniture or organize that space that has been calling your name for a while now. The goal is to make the plans now so that when January arrives you have something to look forward to doing!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
