Hope Isn’t A Plan

One of the reason I decided to become a coach 10 years ago was due to two simple questions I asked myself in January of 2014: “What have I done/accomplished in the last 5 years and what do I want to do/accomplish in this coming year?” I didn’t like my “last 5 years” answer, so I decided right there that my “this year” answer was going to be something I could get really excited about! Fast forward 10 years and the dream in 2014 is a reality in 2024.

As we start off the New Year, I thought you might like to try this reflection/dream exercise. You can choose the periodicity, like back one year and forward one year is just as good. The question I was asking myself, essentially, was, “Did I like the direction my career was headed?” I was also asking myself, “Am I intentionally creating the life I want or am I drifting and hoping things turn out the way I want simply because I am working hard?” Hard work isn’t enough, in my opinion. I know a lot of hard workers who aren’t where they want to be because they aren’t creating and designing their life, they are hoping.

Hope isn’t a plan that anyone can execute. Hope is a “wait and see,” game that leaves you and me beholden to the plan of others. I don’t want to help execute someone else’s plan for me, I want to execute my plan. What about you? What do you want? Let’s make 2024 all about us and our plan, what do you think?

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
