Yesterday, at my daughter Clare’s graduation, I listened to a great commencement speech. It was great for many reasons, so kudos to Stevens Institute of Technology for their selection. The speaker was Marques Brownlee who is from the great state of NJ, he graduated from Stevens just 8 years ago, his speech was poignant as well as funny—and it was only 7 minutes long! He killed it!
Brownleee is an American YouTuber and professional ultimate player—best known for his technology-focused videos as well as his podcast Waveform. He explained that people ask him all the time to give his advice or to share the secret to his success and he confessed, “I don’t really have a good answer.” He went on to say that he’s had good luck, fortuitous timing, general hard work, consistency, and other things that formulated his success that couldn’t necessarily be replicated or repeated, and certainly not shared as “advice.” But, Brownlee went on to say, that it was his passion for what he did that was arguably the propellant of his success! Right, passion!
What’s your passion? What’s driving you forward every day? Passion is the fuel—it’s the energy source and the power that makes it possible to really give it your all. Passion is one thing, when you see it someone else, you realize how powerful a force it is. We all have it even if we aren’t feeling it right now. It’s one of the things I love to work on with clients. I believe you (and I) were born to do something great, maybe many things. If you aren’t feeling energized, fueled, or propelled right now, ask yourself, “What am I really, really passionate about?” That’s where the fire is!
Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
