The Maserati-Driving Knucklehead

The other night, we were traveling home from Vermont on some major highway near the Massachusetts-Connecticut border. Suddenly, a gray Maserati traveling at around 90 mph came from behind and swiftly changed lanes right in front of us, almost causing an accident. Both Doug and I took a minute or so to calm down and comprehend what could have happened. Once calm, we immediately started to berate this imbecile, in the privacy of our own car, for his egregiously dangerous and risky decisions.

When we think of risk-taking—HE is who we think of! HE’s the one who is giving risk-taking a bad name! As soon as we hear the word risk, most of us will immediately associate it with words like scary and dangerous. Risk does have an element of exposing ourselves to that which is no longer safe—to share the opposite of risk, but there are degrees. All risks are not created equal. Driving in a car is inherently risky, but we don’t view it that way because we’ve normalized that risk. Driving your car at 90 mph is a whole different risk.

I would love for all of us to revisit risk-taking today. The Maserati-driving knucklehead shouldn’t ruin it for all of us—that is NOT good risk-taking, that is stupid! What risk could you take today that would potentially help you move the needle? Nothing will change if we don’t change. No risk, no reward. Let’s pick ONE THING we want to be different, and decide what baby-risk we are willing to take to help us get it! This is going to be fun!

Let’s GO! WE GOT THIS!
