Motivational Monday!

Have you ever written a personal statement to yourself about how amazing you truly are? Me either, until now. I was prompted by something that was said on a recent podcast that I had listened to while I was out on a walk. The talk track was about our inner critic and what that unwelcome resident in our mind continues to say to us on a daily basis. That’s when I thought, well, what is the opposite of that? That’s what I need.

Over the weekend I wrote down everything that the inner critic would NEVER say. I could have written for a while, but just writing a few sentences about my strengths and abilities was enough. This small paragraph was filled with power words like strong, smart, confident, successful—and more! Imagine that? My inner critic must have been thinking, “Wait!! What is going on here? No, no, no! Where are all the fear words that make her feel small?”

This weekend I decided to break up with my inner critic. Honestly, I can’t believe we have stayed together this long. This break up has been a long time coming and I couldn’t be happier! Unfortunately, I think this is like a rent-controlled apartment in NYC, I don’t think I can outright evict her, BUT I can break up with her. I will be repeating my new and powerful personal statement everyday so that I remind her who is in charge here. If you haven’t ever written a personal statement defining, to yourself, how incredibly amazing you are, I am encouraging you to do so! No one else is ever going to write this out for you, so it might as well be you and it might as well be now!
