The Weather You Bring

Two exchanges, 24 hours apart, entirely different experiences.

Doug and I entered the Salamander Washington DC last Wednesday. We were only staying one night. When we approached the front desk, we were greeted by Eskedar. She could not have been lovelier. When she realized it was our anniversary, she asked if we could giver her a few minutes to see if she could upgrade our room. We went to the bar and enjoyed a glass of champagne while we waited. On returning to her, she announced that she was able to offer us a larger room with a beautiful view! Love her! Not necessary or expected, but so appreciative that she went the extra mile! Honestly, everyone goes the extra mile at the Salamander Washington DC!

Twenty-four hours later, we were at a BEAUTIFUL vineyard in Virginia with our friends. We sat down for our lunch reservation and from that moment on we felt like a complete bother to our server. She made us feel like she couldn’t wait for us to leave—and she actually said so later on when she said, “The table is only reserved for 10 more minutes.” And, I’d like to note that we were perfect guests! No “When Harry met Sally” moments. I still love the vineyard, but we spent the next three days dissecting her and what we could have possibly done to make her treat us like a complete bother.

How we behave matters. We share our vibration with others, whether we want to or not. Eskedar and all of the employees at the Salamander made us feel welcomed and part of the Salamander family—it was like walking into a ray of sunshine! And the beautiful vineyard in Virginia, well that was more like a dark cloud. As you move forward to embrace today, be aware of the “weather” you bring with you no matter where you go. Are you bringing sunshine? I sure hope so!
