“Having somewhere to go is home, having someone to love is family. And having both is a blessing.” Unknown
Do you remember when you were a little kid and you used to play Manhunt. Most of the game I was filled with anxiety, trying not to get caught, but there was always a great sense of relief when I made it to home base. Home base was where all players were safe. And there was always one kid who never wanted to leave base and all the kids would yell at him to get off so we could try to catch him. I totally get why he didn’t want to leave home base, it’s where everyone knew they were safe, nothing was at risk, and anxiety was at it’s lowest point. Home base was great!
I had no idea that Manhunt was preparing me for life. Home base is safe in so many ways. It’s where we can truly relax and enjoy the things in life that are really meaningful, like our family. And look, if your like me and my family, we have our fair share of disagreements, but in the end, it’s still the place where we all feel most loved and accepted—we can truly be our most authentic selves.
It’s Friday and the work week is about to end for most of us. Breathe in what home and family means to you. Are you going to spend this weekend with your phone and your work or your family and friends? Jen Christopher perhaps said it best, “There’s only one thing more precious then our time and that’s who we spend it on.” The choice is yours. Our home and our family are priceless gifts—and for this weekend, stop wishing for more. Enjoy what is right in front of you. You are so blessed.
With Gratitude,
Beth
